Tegra’s Journey to Raw and Living Foods

My journey to living a healthy and harmonious lifestyle has been anything but easy and simple. For many years I researched, read, experimented, and failed at various attempts. However the day I discovered that living a Raw and Living Foods lifestyle was best for me, was the day I saved my life.

This quest for wholeness has been a daily, deliberate, and committed process that began in 1999 after reading the book “Mad Cowboy” by Howard F. Lyman. I finished the book in two days and instantly decided that living a vegan lifestyle was the ticket to optimum health. For four years, I ate cooked meatless dishes and couldn’t get enough of all the new “meat substitute” foods that I thought was a great source of protein. Boy, was I ever misinformed!
Looking back, I strongly believe that certain things I ate as a vegan contributed to my bout with cancer in 2004 not to mention the three failed pregnancies that resulted in Dilation and Curettage (D&C) surgeries.

My first miscarriage was in October 1999, which was diagnosed as a Molar/Ectopic Pregnancy. A Molar Pregnancy occurs when the sperm attaches itself to and fertilizes an empty egg, and instead of a fetus developing, pregnancy tissue and pregnancy symptoms occur. This type of pregnancy is cancerous. An Ectopic Pregnancy is when a fetus or pregnancy tissue is in the fallopian tubes. Because of this, I had to have a D&C to remove the pregnancy tissue. My doctor monitored me weekly to ensure that the problem did not escalate to where I would need chemotherapy or additional major surgery. Within a month, I was fine.

In December 2002, I had miscarriage. But in December 2003, my failed pregnancy was diagnosed as Molar, which meant cancer. I had to have surgery to remove the pregnancy tissue. However, the doctor was unable to get all of it because some had embedded itself in the lining of my uterine wall. This is dangerous because the tissue is cancerous. If not quickly treated, the HCG hormone level — a hormone that determines if a woman is pregnant — would continue to increase.

When a woman is not pregnant, her HCG levels should remain at zero. For me to lower my HCG levels from 20,000 to zero, my doctor had me on weekly methotrexate shots. This treatment should have only taken two months for the levels to drop to zero. After six months, my levels were down to 22 but would not go any further. I was tired of the shots and believed there had to be another way to heal my body. I was already seeing an acupressurist throughout this ordeal. But I believed I could do more. So, I began researching detoxification programs as well as holistic diets as a way to help cleanse my body of the cancer. The week of June 11, 2004 my HCG levels jumped from 22 to ultimately 6,792. My doctor called me with the terrible news. My body had rejected the shots and the HCG levels were rising. If I didn’t get an aggressive form of chemotherapy and/or have a full hysterectomy, I would die.

The first time cancer was discussed with me in 1999, I was scared out of my mind. I was only 34 years old and desperately wanted to have a baby. My husband and I had waited until we felt we were spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and financially ready for a family. And now that we were, my body wanted to cheat me of the experience. It was not fair. Being a Christian woman, I had some serious discussions with God. I needed answers, but I also needed direction and assurance that He was with me through the entire process. I had always been a praying woman. But because of this, I further committed myself to prayer and fasting according to the Bible. And by the time the doctor told me my options in 2004, my prayer life was so strong that not only didn’t I believe his report, but I did something I would have never done had I not dedicated my life more fully to God. I rejected my doctor’s advice. Early in January, I had begun memorizing divine healing scriptures as well as researching for alternatives to chemotherapy. In my quest for optimum health, I had found a wellness center in San Diego. I had always wanted to go, but had not had the opportunity. Now seemed like the perfect time. However, my husband definitely wasn’t on board.

After the doctor gave me the grim report, I prayed like never before. By the time I finished, I called San Diego and checked myself into the Optimum Health Institute. It is a wellness center devoted to Raw and Living Foods diets for people with various health challenges. Before leaving, I gathered with friends and family to pray that God would give me a miracle during the next three weeks while at the center. The only way my doctor would go along with such a treatment is if I would get weekly blood work done at a nearby hospital and have my results faxed to him. Eventually, my husband said OK. Though he still had serious doubts.

While there, I was introduced to Raw and Living Foods. I learned to prepare various meals. I learned the benefits of a Raw and Living Foods lifestyle. My body quickly responded to the change. My skin glowed. My eyes sparkled. My hair became stronger and shinier. I had more energy while there on this diet than I had the whole time I was living a vegan lifestyle. Not only that, but after the first week, my HCG levels dropped to 530! I praised and thanked God for the miracle. I soaked up as much knowledge about Raw and Living Foods as I could. The next week my levels jumped to 4,790. But I felt great! I felt completely alive. When I left the center, my levels were at 40,100. A week later, I saw the top Molar specialist in the country. My HCG count was 147,245. However, the rest of my lab reports were excellent. The specialist was encouraged by this as well as surprised. Because of my optimum health, I would only have to have five days of a higher dose of chemotherapy and a partial hysterectomy. My ovaries would be spared, and I could have children but would need someone to carry the baby for me. The next week my HCG level jumped to 188,421. It was time for the treatment and I felt at peace.

A day after my partial hysterectomy, I was up and walking around. And after three days, I climbed four flights of stairs without experiencing pain. Had I followed my doctors’ recommendation to immediately receive aggressive chemotherapy and a full hysterectomy, I would have never had this type of instant recovery. After the surgery, I was told that the cancer was not Molar, but actually Cariocarcinoma, which is a very aggressive cancer that almost always spreads to the lungs and brain. Only by God’s grace and approaching my health challenge from a holistic standpoint was I able to conquer the cancer. Taking my health into my own hands with God’s divine guidance was key for me. In October 2004 I was fully healed and today I am cancer free!

My Diet Today

My raw food diet consists of delicious simple and gourmet meals made of fresh organic fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, sprouted grains and legumes, sea vegetables, and dried fruit. Eating anything other than organic food defeats the purpose of living a Raw and Living Foods lifestyle because all other food is loaded with chemicals and pesticides. I don’t cook my food. Instead I soak, sprout, blend, or dehydrate it. The only reason I still have a stove in the house is for my husband. For me, a stove is useless because when food is heated above 105° F valuable enzymes, which are the life force of the food, are destroyed.

My essence

I continue to be amazed at how God moves in my life. After graduating from the University of Southern California, I entered the record business and spent twelve successful years there working as a sales executive. After leaving the record business I started a high-end custom invitation design business. I've always had the fashion bug which led me to importing clothing from India. But, it wasn't until I began to change my way of eating that I found myself having an even deeper passion than ever about health and wellness. Particularly, once God healed me and I was on the other side of my cancer challenge, I began to feel such a deep sense of gratitude for being able to sow something of value into the lives of others - it all clicked!!! I thank God for my cancer challenge and the many revelations I experienced during that season. I just love the way God uses setbacks as a way of setting us up for something greater!

Living a 100% raw food lifestyle since June 2004 has made me passionate about helping others change their lives by fueling their bodies with raw and living foods.

I LOVE my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, praying and worshipping, my heaven sent husband, my children who have yet to be born, teaching others about the wonderful healing benefits of raw and living foods, music, art, fashion, traveling the globe, and being a vessel that God uses in order for Him to be glorified. I truly believe God makes room for all of our gifts! He never ceases to blow my mind and I remain in awe of his awesome power.

If you're interested in finding out more about the benefits of a raw and living foods lifestyle then you've come to the right place. I welcome and invite you into my world and am open about sharing everything I've learned. Come. Let's take this fun and rewarding journey together!

Many healthy blessings,
